Art Vibe Garland

Are you a visual artist that lives or works in Garland? 

The Garland Cultural Arts Commission is pleased to announce a call for entries for Art Vibe Garland, an exhibition spotlighting Garland visual artists. This “Best-OfGarland” show featuring 2D art will be displayed concurrently at eight locations throughout the city of Garland. Viewers will be encouraged to visit all eight locations to see the complete exhibition. 

DATES AND DEADLINES

ARTIST ELIGIBILITY 

•  Open to artists living or working in Garland
• Open to living artists Senior Year HS and Older
• All levels are encouraged to enter

ENTRIES

• Entries must be a 2D artwork; this includes Paintings (oil, acrylic, watercolor, digital, encaustic, etc); Drawings (graphite, pastel, ink, colored pencil, digital, etc.); Printmaking (etching, woodcut, lithography, engraving, aquatint, etc.); Collage
• Maximum width of 36 inches (includes frame or mat)
• You may submit up to five entries
• The juror will select approximately 64 pieces

JUROR

Dave Kramer 

 Dave Kramer started his art career as a freelance illustrator and then moved into the world of fine art and portraiture. He uses traditional techniques to paint in a realistic style. Dave studied art at Indiana University and has received awards from the Dallas Society of Illustrators, the New York Society of Illustrators, and Artist Magazine. He has helped many nonprofit art organizations over the years including the Decorative Artisans Guild and the Dallas Society of Illustrators. Dave has been teaching for 22 years at the Creative Art Center of Dallas. Much of his work can be seen online here Version Options Art Vibe Garland Headline.

ACCEPTANCE

• Artists with accepted entries will be notified by text or email on April 7. Artists whose work is not accepted will not be notified.
•  A list of accepted artists will be posted on GarlandArts.com by April 7, 2023
• Accepted art must be professionally framed or matted
• Accepted art must be dropped off at <location TBD> between April 7 and April 28 during business hours (9:00 am and 5:00 pm M-F)
• All of the accepted artworks (approximately 64 pieces) will be divided into eight groups and displayed at one of eight locations in Garland 

FRAMING AND MATTING 

• The outside dimensions of the frame, mat or canvas may not exceed 36 inches in width and 36 inches in height
• Frames should be simple in design (no ornate frames with three-dimensional or painted effects)
• Mats should be shades of white, off-white, beige, gray, or black
• Artwork should be ready to hang by wire - no saw tooth hangers 

DAMAGE LIABILITY

The Garland Cultural Arts Commission and the City of Garland will take all precautions for artwork in the gallery on its premises during the run of the exhibition. However, artists should always insure their own work while it is out of their possession and are responsible for contacting their own insurance agents. 

PERMISSION AND COPYRIGHT

By submitting an entry, the Artist grants permission for the Garland Cultural Arts Commission and the City of Garland to use the accepted image on its website, newsletters, brochures, promotional materials, and social media. Every effort will be made to maintain quality true to the submitted image, recognizing that the print or electronic medium may affect how the viewer receives the image. The Artist hereby certifies that he or she holds the copyright for this material and the copyright remains with said Artist. The Garland Cultural Arts Commission and the City of Garland will display a notice that material must not be “downloaded” or copied. The Artist also certifies that the work submitted is original and does not infringe on any existing copyright. 

ENTRY PREPARATION

Prepare digital images for submission 

• File naming - name the file using the Artist name followed by the artwork title (for example “MarySmith_StillLifeWithApples.jpg”). Make sure the name and title in the file name match the name and title indicated on the entry form. 
• Dimensions - images should be 1900 pixels or greater on the longer dimension 
• The image should show artwork only and NOT include a mat or frame. Image quality matters. Get help if you need it to prepare your images. 
• File size - JPG file size must be less than 5.0 MB. To see the file size, close your editing program, highlight the file, and Get Info or View Properties 
• File format - Save in an RGB color profile as a “Baseline” (Standard) JPG file. Do NOT save as a “Progressive” JPG file as it may not display properly for jurying 
• Number of images - You are allowed to enter only one JPG image for each artwork submitted
