Accepted & Unaccepted Materials

  • All material should be placed between the sidewalk and curb in the front yard in separate piles that are at least 4 feet apart.
  • Materials should not be placed underneath electrical wires or tree branches.
  • Materials should not be placed near or on-top of utilities or permanent fixtures, such as fences or mailboxes.
  • Materials will not be collected if blocked by a vehicle.
  • Items should be set-out curbside before 7 a.m. on the day of collection.

Accepted brush and bulky items

We accept four types of items for brush and bulky waste collection. Please keep all types of materials in distinct, separate piles from one another. 

  • Limbs, tree trunks, and brush trimmings. 
    • Please keep length between 3 and 7 feet. 
    • Please stack branches in the same direction.
  • Appliances such as refrigerators, washers and dryers.
    • Remove contents and tape doors shut.
  • Landscape waste such as leaves and grass clippings, shall be placed for collection in bags in a pile at the designated collection point and shall not be mixed with other solid waste.
    • Bagged items should weigh no more than 40 lbs.
  • Bulky goods, that will not fit into the green cart, such as:
    • Building, construction and remodeling materials from small household remodeling projects completed by the resident and arranged in manageable piles 
      • Construction/demolition waste may only be set out four times per calendar year. Completing a large project? Click here for information on our residential roll-off program.
      • Please bag, box or bundle all smaller items, including; piping, wire, and plumbing fixtures.
      • All bagged, boxed, or bundled items should weigh no more than 40 lbs.
    • Carpet
    • Furniture
    • Siding
      • Please bag or box stucco siding, shake siding and fiber cement siding.
      • All bagged or boxed items should weigh no more than 40 lbs.
      • Concrete, stone and brick materials will not be collected curbside. Please bring these items directly to the C.M. Hinton, Jr. Regional Landfill.
    • Gypsum board (sheetrock)
      • Please place in a labeled disposable box weighing no more than 40 lbs.
    • Lumber
    • Mattresses
    • Window glass and mirrors placed in a cardboard box taped shut and clearly marked Glass or Broken Glass to prevent accidents
    • Wire
    • Wood Fencing

Unaccepted brush and bulky Items

We cannot accept the following items for curbside collection:

  • Household chemicals, including paint, pesticides, fertilizer, pool chemicals.

  • Household garbage placed outside the trash cart.
  • Material in bags or boxes weighing more than 40 pounds.
  • Roofing materials, concrete, asphalt, rocks, dirt, pallets, and bricks. 
    • Bring these items directly to the landfill or hire a private company to haul away the material.

  • Tires
    • Please take tires to a recycler.
  • Mirrors and glass not placed in a clearly marked cardboard box.
  • Lawn waste or construction debris generated at another address.
  • Individual items weighing more than 40 pounds - this includes bagged or boxed items. 
    • Please note that after a rain event, many items will weigh more than 40 pounds. Our crews may leave some items behind to dry out. Please use eAssist or call us at 972-205-3500 if your materials were left behind to ensure we return when the items are dried out.

REMINDER

Help us provide timely service and keep Garland safe and clean. 

  • Please leave at least 4 feet of space between items for collection. 
  • Do not place brush and bulky items underneath electrical wires or tree branches. 
  • Avoid placing brush or bulky waste near the mailbox, fences, electrical and cable boxes, phone pedestals, sprinkler heads, overhanging limbs or other stationary obstructions.
  • Materials will not be collected if blocked by a vehicle.
  • Items should be set-out curbside before 7 a.m on the day of collection.
